Grasmere School and Nursery is a very happy, hardworking place. With around 70 children, we know our pupils extremely well! Every member of our school community is valued for their personal strengths, and encouraged in their areas for development. We aim for all our children to support each other’s growth in a spirit of loving responsibility; ask wonderful questions and discover their own interests and potential; have strategies for responding positively, honourably, courageously and creatively to all the challenges they will face in life.

We believe that education should be exciting, inspiring and relevant. We try to root learning in real experiences, to ensure that pupils understand the point of their learning. This inspires them to work hard, to persevere, and to aim at the highest possible standards. The school minibus is used regularly to take children out and about. Academic subjects are taught rigorously, by teachers who love their subjects. We use subject specialists for some areas of the curriculum. Some of our staff are highly qualified in outdoor pursuits.

Adventurous sports are built into the curriculum. We have a whole school walk once a term, which is open to parents and the wider community. In PE we also have professional coaches in both competitive team games and individual sports. All children go swimming during each year. We put teams into County competitions in cricket, football, rugby, running, athletics and orienteering. Music, drama and art are central to the school. Children are encouraged to express themselves, and to learn how to perform. This is an important part of building an ability to conduct themselves confidently in the future.
