Inglewood Junior School

Inglewood Junior School Logo

Inglewood Junior School was opened in 1954 on an extensive site that provides spacious accommodation over two levels, as well as playground facilities and a large playing field. There are three teaching blocks each with four classrooms, a library, connecting areas and a recently developed ICT suite which holds 30 computers.

We have a large hall which is used for PE, collective worship, productions and packed lunches. There is a separate dining room for school dinners. Our pupil and staff toilets have recently been refurbished as designed by the school council. Our site is shared with Inglewood Infant School although we are two separate schools. Liaison is good which is supported by transition work leading to a smooth takeover from Year 2 to Year 3.

For security reasons we ask that parents visiting during the school day use the main entrance at the front of the school. All other doors are either locked or have key coded locks. CCTV cameras operate within school. The school has limited access for those with disabilities. A feasibility study has been completed to enable the school to develop an Accessibility Plan. When funding allows, remodelling work will be undertaken to conform to recent legislation with regard to disabled access.

Local Offer

Local Offer Description

The school provides a broad and balanced curriculum for all children, which is differentiated to meet individual needs and abilities. We aim to create an environment that meets the needs of each student ensuring that all children have equal access to the curriculum. ALL children and their parents or carers are encouraged to be fully involved in their learning. The school has the services of a two Special Needs Leaders and eight dedicated support staff.

Senior teaching assistants are deployed in each class to work with groups or individuals. Sometimes children are withdrawn from their classroom to receive specialist individual or small group support. We work closely with external agencies to assess children who have specific learning difficulties. In extreme cases of learning difficulty, with parental agreement, we may call on the Schools’ Psychological Service to help determine specific learning problems and how these might be dealt with.
