Lowther Endowed School

Lowther Endowed School Logo

Lowther Endowed School is handily located in the beautiful Eden Valley between Penrith and Shap, in the village of Hackthorpe. Our catchment area consists of 6 villages and many rural hamlets and farms, but we welcome children from other areas too. Our school has four classes. KS1 is run as a unit of 2 classes and in KS2 we have Y3/4 and Y5/6 classes.

We're fortunate to have excellent facilities, including a hall and large classrooms, along with excellent outdoor facilities such as playing field, large wildlife area and playground. We also have the use of the local tennis courts, where we can play netball and football. The school has a dedicated Forest School area in the forest nearby.

We have just started an after school club, which is proving very popular and looking ahead, we're hoping to be able to offer a breakfast club as well. We provide a wide range of extra-curricular activities, including a great outdoor residential trip to Robin Wood near Alston, and an action-packed urban residential to Liverpool.

We consider PE to be a very important part of our curriculum and are providing the children with opportunities to try a range of sports such as orienteering, street dancing and archery alongside the more traditional school team games.

Local Offer

Local Offer Description

Lowther Endowed School aims to provide education where every child is equally valued and every child achieves success, recognition and praise. All our pupils will achieve full access to a broad, balanced and relevant curriculum which takes into account each child’s individual needs and abilities.

A child may have SEN throughout, or at any time during their school career. This policy ensures that curriculum planning and assessment takes into account the type and extent of the difficulty experienced by the pupil.

Teachers take into account a pupil’s special educational needs in their planning and the provision made therefore, enables them to participate effectively in all curriculum and assessment activities, in addition to broader aspects of school life.
