St Bridget's Catholic Primary School

St. Bridget's Catholic Primary School

The present St. Bridget's School was opened in 1966. This new building replaced the old red sandstone one on the same site since 1872.  The first Catholic school was started in Rafferty Lane, four years earlier, in 1868. The present school is situated in its own grounds and has play areas for Foundation Stage (Reception Class), infants and juniors.

The school has its own kitchen, which produces an extensive, daily changing menu of hot, nutritious meals, good enough to be voted the Best in Cumbria! Technological learning is facilitated by interactive whiteboards in every class and laptops are regularly used within every year group. Computational thinking and creativity to understand and change the world is prominent in our curriculum.

Performing arts, music, drama, speech, role play and small group work all take place in our Arts Room. There are many opportunities throughout the year for the children to showcase and develop their talents. St Bridget’s is committed to ensuring the best school experience for all pupils.

Our Mission Statement

Our aim is to constantly strive for excellence and improvement by opening and maintaining clear lines of communication, well defined roles and responsibilities, appropriate use of data and good assessment procedures to inform planning in a safe and healthy school where individual skills are recognised, valued and built upon in the spirit of our Mission Statement:

St. Bridget’s offers all who are part of it a Christian experience of Gospel values supported by the teaching of the Catholic Church. Curriculum, ethos and experiences come together to help enquiring and developing children to know their full value in the community and prepare them for a world in which they live as unique individuals.
