Camden Mosaic Child Development Team (MOSAIC CDT)

The Child Development Team sees children from 0 - 5 years of age with complex developmental difficulties.

Camden MOSAIC Child Development Team (MOSAIC CDT) is a team looking after pre-school children who need to see more than one professional at the same time. The team is made up of lots of different professionals working together. These include Speech and Language Therapists, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, CAMHS professionals and Paediatricians.

The team work with children presenting with a range of needs which may include physical needs, developmental needs, and social communication concerns such as suspected autism.

The team provide multidisciplinary assessment which may lead to a diagnosis. Sometimes there can be a long wait for this assessment, and the team also provide a range of support whilst waiting. We also link closely with our partners in Camden and will signpost you to other local support.

The team provide a range of interventions following assessment, and we will communicate you with you regularly around what the choices are for your child. We aim to empower those around the child, particularly the parent or carer, through our interventions. These include a range of workshops and training such as our MyCHILD programme and ATLAS programme.

Where is the service located and what areas does it cover?

Kentish Town Health Centre. The Child Development Team offers a service to those who are registered with a Camden GP and live in or near Camden.  For those who live in a different borough but have a Camden GP we will work together with your borough to ensure services are provided, however it may limit what we are able to provide directly - for example things like equipment or home visits may not be possible.

Who does your service provide for?

Children with complex developmental needs aged from birth until their reception year.

How can a child or young person start using the service?

The referral is discussed at the Single Point of Referral (SPOR) Panel.  If the panel agree that the child’s needs are best met by the Child Development Team, the child will be contacted for an initial appointment, usually with our Specialist Health Visitor, or sometimes a physiotherapist if your child's needs have a physical component. Your child will then be added to our waiting list to be seen for a multidisciplinary assessment. We recognise that our wait times for this type of assessment can be longer than we would like, and this is in line with other services locally and nationally. We are doing everything we can to change this.

In the meantime we offer a range of workshops and follow-up support whilst your child is waiting for assessment. We want to work with you and help you to understand and support your child more effectively, and our MyCHILD workshops cover a range of topics to help you with this.

How are decisions made about eligibility for your service?

Decisions are made by the Single Point of Referral Panel. The service meets the needs of pre-school aged children who need to see at least 2 professionals, usually including a paediatrician, for multidisciplinary assessment and intervention.

How do you communicate with service users and how are they involved in decision making/planning?

We communicate with families by letter, phone and at times by email.  Families are encouraged to participate in the assessment process and contribute to the assessment. We also have a website at https://www.cnwl.nhs.uk/services/community-services/camden-mosaic

Is your service fully accessible?

Yes, the building is fully accessible and staff ask about reasonable adjustments. Please do let us know as early as possible if you require us to make reasonable adjustments to support your own or your child's access to our service. There is also a lift to the first floor where our services are based.

What training have the staff supporting children and young people with SEND had/or will be they be getting?

All clinical staff have been trained according to professional standards. Clinical staff working in the service are specialists in their fields with knowledge and experience of a wide range of complex needs and disability. Ongoing training is offered to staff depending on their needs.

Who should a service user contact if they want to raise a concern or complain about something?

Please contact Darren Turze, MOSAIC and BiBorough School Health Service Manager at darren.turze@nhs.net or 02033172200. You can also contact the CNWL Patient Feedback and Complaints Service
Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust, 350 Euston Road, Regent's Place, London NW1 3AX or on 0300 013 4799

Who can a parent carer/young person contact for further information?

Children need to be referred to this service by another professional. Families should contact their GP or health visitor or therapist they are currently working with for further information.
