1: How does the setting identify children with additional needs or SEND?

I have previous experience when it comes to caring for children with SEN and additional needs.

Every child is different as is the support they need but i am able to adapt routines and activities to suit all children.

Unfortunately, the house is not designed for wheelchair access.

 

2: How will I be informed / consulted about the ways in which my child is being supported?

As well as involving parents in their child's care and development, I use the Kinderly app.

This is designed to enable observations to be recorded digitally so that parents can access this information at all times, they can add information about their child's weekend or share their achievements and make suggestions.

It is also great for reports, planning the next steps and tracking children's milestones and achievements.

I email parents a copy of the planning and welcome suggestions and comments. 

Parents are consulted and permission and opinions are sought when there is any change in routine or planning. 

 

3: How will the setting adapt the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum for my child's needs?

All children are unique with different likes and interests as well as learning paces.

I always incorporate children's interests into planning and activities which encourages their confidence and sense of belonging.

I will also use the EYFS guidelines to enable me to monitor each child's milestones and areas of development. This will then help me to plan the next steps and areas that need monitoring and encouragement.

 

4: What teaching strategies does the setting use for children with additional needs or learning difficulties?

As all children's needs will vary, it's important to find ways to support each individual child.

Some strategies that I try to implement are - 

-sensory toys and activities

-heuristic play (letting children explore and learn without intervention)

-Small groups

-offering a range of different level reading books 

-Fine and gross motor activities

-ICT / online activities to encourage the development

-Shared reading

-Multi-sensory presentation of information

-Routines

-Explicit instruction

We also follow the HYGGE approach to encourage and support children's well-being. We often do meditation and yoga which really helps to calm the children and reduces their anxiety when they aren't having the best day. 

5: What additional support does the setting provide for children with additional needs or SEND?

-Take children to various classes and activities

-Working closely with other professionals and parents to discuss the child's needs

-One-to-one support when possible 

6: How will the setting monitor my child's progress and how will I be involved in this?

-With the use of the kindly app

-Access to the child's progress file

-Regular invites to discuss your child's progress

-reports

 

7: How do you ensure children with additional needs or SEND can be included in the same activities as other children, including trips?

This should never be a problem and all children will be included at all times.

There may be some children who have limitations and restrictions but measures will be taken to include them.

I may need to involve an assistant for more support on trips and activities.

8: How accessible is the building for children with mobility difficulties/wheelchair users?

Unfortunately, the house is not designed to allow wheelchair access

9: How will you support my child's transition to a new setting or school?

Some children will settle in quicker than others but I offer the below opportunities - 

-First meeting with parents and children

-Second visit where the child is left with me for an hour or so

- A shorter day the first day they attend

-Hand over book

-Asking parents/children to come in with their favourite toy or book

-Introducing new children to other children and talking to them about the new child's interests ect

-Planning activities that incorporate the new child's interests

-All about me forms

-Child's favourite meal or lunch on their first day

10: How does the setting assess the overall effectiveness of its SEN provision and how can parents/carers take part in this evaluation?

I don't currently have any SEN children in my care if I were to, however, I would always keep parents informed and ensure that we information share.

I will make a plan with parents to ensure that their child's needs are being met, this can be reviewed every few months and changes made to their routine or care plan if needed. 

11: Who should I contact if I am considering registering for a place at the setting?

12: What arrangements does the setting have for feedback from parents/carers, including compliments and complaints?

-I display my Ofsted poster with contact information should parents want to praise me or place a complaint.

-parents can approach me at all times to discuss their child's care.

- I use the Kinderly app which allows parents to comment on observations and reports

-I send out a three-monthly and then a six-monthly report, this is sent via the Kinderly app with a copy emailed to parents, parents can comment on this and send it back.

-I email copies of the planning to all parents each month and always welcome comments and suggestions.
