Hunter, Rachel

Hi my name is Rachel and I have been in childcare for fifteen years. I am married and a mother to two beautiful sons. I offer quality and affordable childcare for children aged 1-12 years of age within my home. I have a childrens playroom where my boys and I have lots of fun doing activities which include: baking, arts/craft, puzzles, role play, music, games, free play and messy play.  I am very lucky to live opposite a large green space with a childrens park and woodlands where we spend time daily going for walks and exploring.  All activities with children are based around the Early Years Foundation Stage. Every child's learning and development will be recorded in a learning journey.  I get great satisfaction from my work and am infused by seeing children learning and developing. I offer a warm and friendly home from home environment and look forward to hearing from you.

Local Offer Description

I am a home from home setting and been in childcare for over fourteen years. I have two boys of my own and love watching children grow and develop. Every child develops and achieves at their own pace and  with guidance can progress further. I am fortunate to have a playroom for my setting and we live on a large green space. We love exploring the outdoors, getting messey, cooking, gardening and playing. Opening hours 7.30-5.30 with three meals and snacks included in the day.

1: How does the setting identify children with additional needs or SEND?

When a child first starts within my setting an all about me booket is given to parents to provide as much information about their child. I completed trackers within the EYFS booklet  as a starting point for the child. Observation/planning and next steps are an ongoing process which parents can  view their child's leaning  journey online. All permissions forms will be in place  if  information needs to be shared with other professionals and two year checks are given to parents to discuss with their local health visitor .

2: How will I be informed / consulted about the ways in which my child is being supported?

I like to build a good relationship with my parents as communication is vital for their child's progress . I have daily communication diaries and an online secure system which parents can see their child's progress. I give regular updates my text message and progress meetings every six months.  When a child first starts in my setting an all about me booket if filled in so I can get the information I need and use as a starting point.

3: How will the setting adapt the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum for my child's needs?

My planning is child lead and I plan around the child's needs. I like to keep my ratios low and feel I give one on one time to children through the day. From observing children I can promote their development by setting next steps  to achieve which is shared with parents.

4: What teaching strategies does the setting use for children with additional needs or learning difficulties?

I haven't worked with children with additional needs before but feel I could adapt activities to their needs and bring in resources which will further their development. I would seek support from multi agencies for advice with parents permission.

5: What additional support does the setting provide for children with additional needs or SEND?

I have a SEND policy for my setting and risk assessments in place. My resources are inclusive and if I needed advice I  would seek this from my local authority.

6: How will the setting monitor my child's progress and how will I be involved in this?

All childrens progress in monitored through Tapestry. This is online trackers which parents are able to view and add there input into their child's learning. I have progress meetings every six months and two year checks/reports completed for parents to discuss with helth visitor. Daily communication books and verbal communication is also fundamental.

7: How do you ensure children with additional needs or SEND can be included in the same activities as other children, including trips?

I am fully aware of the equality act which is highlighted in my policies. I have risk assessments for every activity we do in the environment and if a trip was planed that I had not been to before I would risk assess this before hand. I keep my rations low when I am on a trip 1:2

8: How accessible is the building for children with mobility difficulties / wheelchair users?

I have large hallways and doors that open wide down stairs for wheelchair users and mobility difficulties. Although due to living in a town house my kitchen is on the second floor but playroom and toilets down stairs. Also large open green space next to my house for outside play.

9: How will you support my child's transition to a new setting or school?

I offer to do transitional visits and home visits. All learning journeys and transitional reports will be shared with the school. We read looks of books about going to school, looking at photos and school readiness activities.

10: How does the setting assess the overall effectiveness of its SEN provision and how can parents / carers take part in this evaluation?

Communication and feedback from parents is very important in my setting. Also getting multi agencies to share information needed. By looking at the child's development and next steps is also important.

11: Who should I contact if I am considering registering for a place at the setting?

Contact myself- Rachel hunter visa_diva@hotmail.com

parent tour and welcome pack will be given on first visit

12: What arrangements does the setting have for feedback from parents / carers, including compliments and complaints?

In my setting I have feedback forms which parents can fill out whenever they would like. I also have a compliment and complaints book which records this feedback. Parents poster is displayed on the parents board and references available if required.
