Safeguarding Our Schools

The Safeguarding our Schools (SoS) Team is led by the Education Safeguarding Team and provides support, guidance and challenge to schools to ensure that children are kept safe, and their welfare is promoted.

They work closely with school leaders and safeguarding leads (at BFC maintained schools and schools and education settings that have purchased the SoS SLA), and multi-agency partners.

Their priorities are:

  • To work collaboratively with and support our schools to ensure all children in the Borough are safe and free from harm at school
  • To promote the welfare of children
  • Equip schools with the knowledge and processes to keep children safe through promoting high standards of safeguarding policy, procedures and practice ensuring a child-centred approach
  • Contribute to multi-agency collaboration ensuring children are in receipt of the right support at the right time in order to meet their needs

Some examples of their work with schools includes:

  • Half Termly Designated Safeguarding Leads Network Meetings
  • Opportunities to discuss particular safeguarding issues and concerns
  • Dissemination of information to schools on child protection and safeguarding issues
  • Advice to schools regarding their statutory responsibilities and the standards that are expected in order to appropriately safeguard and protect children
  • Safeguarding and child protection training
  • Safeguarding review visits

Ultimately their focus is to work collaboratively to ensure that children's needs are met and they are able to achieve their best possible outcomes.
