Out of School Childcare

Out of school services are usually for school aged children and offer an opportunity to spend time in an environment which is child centred and supports their play, outside of standard school hours. Such services are usually based on school sites or nearby in community centres, youth clubs or nurseries. Many also offer a pick up service from other local schools.

What are the different types of out of school service?

  • Breakfast clubs - normally open from 8.00am until start of school.
  • After school clubs - typically open from end of school to 6pm.
  • Holiday clubs - providing full day care and open during the school holidays from about 8.00am - 6.00pm.
  • Sport Holiday Clubs – providing tuition to children in either one specific or a range of sports. Opening times vary with some offering full day sessions and others operating between 10am – 3pm.
  • Holiday activity groups - often drop-in sessions for parents and their children
